Mumbai: All new train-building projects in Maharashtra will be started at the new Pune Station building from August.
The state government has approved the construction of six new stations in Pune, including one for metro services, a new station for diesel trains and the construction and erection of new stations at other locations.
The first phase of the project, involving the construction works at the Pune-Nellore-Chandigarh line, will be completed by the end of this month.
The Pune metro project was approved by the Central government in March and the state government is building the other stations for the metro services.
The new metro stations will be constructed using the latest construction technology and the work will begin within two years from now, said Anil Khatri, Minister of Railways, Railways and Highways.
The government will construct three new stations, four at Pimpri-Chinchwad and four at Chandigarhi.
The construction of the new stations is expected to take around a year.
Pune Metro project in progressThe Pimple Line-III-I (Nellores-Chanchigarhs-Pimpri Chinchwads) is a line linking Pimperwadi to Chandigara and it will connect to the central line from Chandigarah to Pune in two phases.
The metro will be extended to Chinchwa, Pune and Chhanchwad from here.
It will link to the new central line on July 1, 2020.
Pimple line-III in progressThis is the third phase of Pimples metro line, which is the first phase to be completed.
The Central government has allocated Rs 7,500 crore for this project and will construct seven stations at the five lines in this phase.
The first phase is expected be completed in the next two years.
The next phase will be complete by October 2020.
The remaining five stations will cost around Rs 3,500 crores.
The project is expected add 1,000 to 1,500 new jobs.
