A proposed station for Alston-based KWZR is set to be constructed in a park at the site of the former Bison Oil refinery, with a construction permit to begin in 2019.
The project would be located at a location that would serve as the site for the new Alston Station, a planned station for a new mixed-use development at Algonquin Park, which is being built as part of a $2.4 billion investment in the area.
KWLX-TV reported the news of the station project last month.
The proposed Alston development is expected to be the largest mixed-used development in Chicago, and it would include a hotel, apartments, restaurants, and retail.
The new Alton Station would be the second station built at the former Algonquins Oil refinery in the last five years.
In 2015, the city approved a $6.5 million grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to create the Alston Algonque station at the Algonques Oil refinery site.
The station was intended to be a mixed-user station, with shops and restaurants, a restaurant, and a hotel.
It is currently in development, but no site is currently available.
Construction of the proposed Alton station will be funded by the state’s Economic Development Authority, which also funds a number of new and planned projects in the Chicago area.
